Let’s face it. Martial artists see the world a little differently. They see a combination of defense, offense, art, beauty, physicality, mindset and spirituality.
The eyes take it all in during class and practice. Practitioners start to see a new hope and a new beginning inside themselves. They realize how powerful and explosive they can be, or how reflective and meditative.
Their eyes see people differently, too. They view every peer, student and every instructor as a gift. They see learning as an opportunity worth more than money or things. Truly, they would never see life as clearly without martial arts. To learn and to teach requires eyes wide open.
Put this vision into your own life. Your eyes and your vision hold the key to who you are. What you see now is only a fraction of what can be seen. Only when the mind, body, and spirit collide can you realize the beauty of your unique perspective.
For all of us, today is a good day to see life, love, and friendships for what they really are. It is a good day to widen the scope of your vision and view and create a new vantage point. Move around the ring, whether in martial arts or in life, in various directions and let nothing stop you from seeking answers to your questions about who you really are or who you want to be.
Yes, the eyes tell all. If you lose sight of your purpose, you will feel as if you have been struck by a sucker punch. Keep your eyes on the prizes – humility, hope, appreciation, opportunity, love, and compassion – and all will become clear.
My eyes? I see you very clearly and I like what I see. I see your positivity and desire to make the world a better place. If you feel stuck, that is okay. Just as the martial artist finds their unique perspective and place in the world, you can, too.
xoxo
