Background: Penny Pitassi began martial art training in 1989 and holds rank in several different martial art systems. She worked in the Air Force as a B52 crew chief (only 2 of the 400 in this position were women!) then later became an Air Force Historian and part of the Honor Guard. Seven months before retiring from the Air Force in 2007, and with several years of martial art experience under her belt, Penny began her 1st martial art school which she eventually grew into four successful schools in different locations. In this interview, she shares her insights on how to grow your school; why teaching character development is a necessity; how she finds success teaching martial arts in PE programs in private schools; and how and why she became involved in learning and teaching an active shooter program. Trained and taught martial arts since 1989. Holds black belts in five different
styles of martial arts: Shorin Kempo Karate (7th Dan), Shotokan (3rd Dan),
Kihido Karate (1st Dan), Judo (1st Dan), and Tae Kwon Do (1st Dan). Awarded
the title of Kyoshi (teacher of teachers – grandmaster) in 2010.
United States Air Force / 1987 – 2007
Retired from the United States Air Force in 2007. Held positions over that
time as a B-52 Crew Chief, Wing Historian, Honor Guard Commander, and
Personnel Readiness/Wartime Planning.
