Meet Violet Li, an established Tai Chi practitioner, instructor and author of hundreds of articles about Tai Chi. Violet shares about her background and experiences, the principles of theories and techniques, and why martial arts are important for women.

Bio:

Violet Li is a certified Tai Chi Instructor and is also known as a teachers’ teacher. She is the Founder of “Free Daily Online Tai Chi & Qigong Lessons with Violet & Friends” with hundreds of thousands of views from 30 countries. She is also a columnist for Chinese Wushu, the most prominent Chinese Martial Arts magazine Contributor of Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine, the largest English magazine in the field.

Her awards include, “Best Reporter” honored by the “World Congress of Tai Chi, Qigong & TCM” and “Tai Chi Gala”.

Violet has written more than 600 articles mostly in English and some in Chinese to bring the awareness of Tai Chi/Qigong to the world. She is the Publisher of http://www.VioletLiTaiChi.com, a top ten Tai Chi site with readership from 45 countries Interviewed by “National Public Radio in Columbia”(MO) Featured on “Show Me St. Louis”(KSDK).

Her educational background includes an Executive MBA from Vanderbilt University, an MA in Economics from Washington University, and a BA in Journalism from Chengchi University.

She is the 12th Generation Chen Style Tai Chi Inheritor and the Principal, St. Louis Tai Chi & Qigong for Health.

Violet was born in Shanghai, China and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. She resides in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, but is moving to Las Vegas, NV.

She has always enjoyed workouts.  She studied yoga, practiced aerobic dance and taught kickboxing. But it wasn’t until 2000 that she found her true passion in Tai Chi. Since then, she has spent more than 10,000 hours learning the art both in theory and techniques from many instructors including some masters/grandmasters and also interviewed research scientists, doctors and practitioners to understand the benefits of doing Tai Chi.

Her knowledge on Tai Chi and Qigong accelerated when she started to take lessons from Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, the 11th Chen Style Tai Chi lineage holder, one of the top ten martial art masters in China and the honoree of the Cambridge List of the Most Distinguished Chinese People in the World in 1999. She is extremely grateful for the opportunity to receive the private tutelage from Grandmaster Chen so she is able to understand the very profound knowledge of Tai Chi.

In addition to writing about Tai Chi/Qigong, Violet has taught Tai Chi and Qigong at senior centers, YMCA, St. Louis Chinese Language School, and private studios to promote the art. She volunteered herself to teach unemployed professionals at Business People in Between Jobs, inner city youth and parents at Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, AT&T, Open Streets organized by the St. Louis Mayor, and other venues. She hosted a three-month Tai Chi for Health program and taught Chen Style 18 Form as a fundraiser for St. Louis Artist Guild.  Violet was invited to perform Tai Chi at various occasions, e.g. Chinese Cultural Days in Missouri Botanical Garden and Coker College in South Carolina. She was an executive producer for Tai Chi 24, an instructional DVD collaborated by majority of St. Louis instructors.  She was interviewed and reported on by both national and local media.  She was invited by Citadel University in South Carolina to perform Tai Chi and to lecture the health benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong based on the scientific studies. She also gave speeches on Tai Chi health benefits to Parkinson Association, churches and various organizations in St. Louis as well as Zonta International in Taipei.

Outside Tai Chi, Violet Li was a Senior Program Manager in the IT industry until she quit the job in May 2015 to devote herself to the great cause of Tai Chi/Qigong.  Previously, she served as the directors of Operations, Market and MIS for a Fortune 500 company. She taught International Communications at the Graduate School of Communications at Webster University (St. Louis, MO), Economics 101 at National Chengchi University (Taipei, Taiwan), and Money and Banking at Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan).

In the past seven years, Violet Li has interviewed hundreds of Tai Chi and Qigong masters/grandmasters, instructors, and practitioners as well as prominent scientists, doctors, and experts. She has written about the philosophy, theory, principles, techniques, and skills of the art. She has celebrated and shared the personal stories and accomplishments of individuals and the healing power of Tai Chi and Qigong. She has provided in-depth reviews on clinical studies, books, DVDs, and videos. She is a prolific writer and has published more than 500 articles on Tai Chi and Qigong as of June 2016.
