Hi,

Welcome to a new series being incorporated into my martial art blog. This podcast series is a recorded interview with martial art women all over the world who truly make a difference in the world because of their martial art practice, and a listening journey for you. Whenever you have time, you can click above to listen at home or on the go. Whether you are a martial artist or not, you are sure to be inspired.

First, a quick question. Have you ever wondered if age matters in martial arts or in any physical activity? Maybe you are a martial artist who is getting a little older, or you always wanted to start a martial art but thought it was too late. Perhaps you do not think it is worth pursuing a physical activity because of your age. Whatever your question is, this podcast answers it! In fact, Pam Neil IS your answer!

In this podcast, meet 83 year old Pam Neil. Pam is currently training for her 5th degree black belt test in January, 2021. That’s right! She is 83 and training for her 5th degree! She also actively trains in Krav Maga. She began training 20 years ago when she was in her 60’s.

I ask Pam a series of questions in the podcast about her training, how it all began and why it is so importnt to her. We both laugh when I ask what it is like to train with men, and she says that the men in class don’t punch her hard enough!

For Pam, martial arts are the base for her personal success, fitness, and how she is aging amazingly gracefully (most think she is in here 60’s)! There is a funny story in here about her age that will give you a chuckle.

Pam’s inspiring story explains how martial art training is beneficial in a multitude of positive and energizing ways. As for goals, she says, “This is the goal I want now… to be fit and get my 5th degree. And after my 5th degree, I will set another goal.” She continues to run up and down stairs for training.

Don’t miss listening to this podcast. It is super enjoyable and inspiring.

As always, thank you for being a part of The Martial Arts Woman’s mission – to make the world a better place through martial arts and positivity.

xoxo

Andrea

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this pod cast. Such an inspiration. I’ve been practising Tai Chi for 20 years (along with Ba Gua & Hsing-I for about 10 years during this time). Off and on over the years I’ve gotten discouraged when I find it difficult to do things I could do previously in my studies or having a harder time pushing through exhaustion to learn new & more difficult material. I love my art, know the benefits it has brought to my life, and wish I’d had the opportunity to learn it MUCH younger. But we have to begin where we are and what we currently have to work with. It was such a joy to hear about someone who started at the age I am now succeeding and reaching her goals.

    1. Hi Susan, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on he podcast. It often helps me, too, to hear how other women are maintaining their practice and overcoming the changes that occur through the years. Rest assured, there is a lot we can do throughout our lifetimes! Best of luck to you and please keep in touch!
