You Are a Superhero

How do you see yourself? Are you powerful, courageous, or brave? The truth is that you are all of those things and more.

As a woman in martial arts, I see myself as a practitioner and instructor. It does not seem outstanding to me. But, others see me as one of few women martial artists who step out into social media, writes for numerous martial art magazines, has published two books, and keeps steadfast to a mission of changing the world for the better.

The truth is, we are all much more superhero-like than we realize.

Sit down today and make a list of your greatest attributes. These will remind you of your own personal mission and purpose. There is a reason you are the way you are. Continue to improve your strengths and build your character. Work diligently to stay true to the core of who you are. It takes effort, but you can do it. You can stay strong and true, if you believe in yourself.

But, that is not all.

Think about how you want to improve. None of us is perfect, and that is a good thing! Life would be boring if we had nothing for which to strive. Personal improvements are when we grow the most. When we can assess ourselves honestly and remind ourselves that we can improve every single day in one way or another, well, that’s actually a very freeing thought!

Recently I had a huge change in my life. A job opportunity became available across country. I really had to think about this one. I had to ask myself, “Is this where I am meant to go?” I had to assess my strengths, my desires, my hopes and dreams. In the end, they all pointed in one direction, so I packed up and moved and made a change that was outside my comfort zone. Personal assessments make you realize that you are capable.

Wherever you are in your life right now, the good news is that you can always make it even better. Look at your life honestly and ask yourself important questions. Are you giving 100% at work, being the best spouse you can be, asking forgiveness for the mistakes you have made? Take action to improve these weaknesses. Change your work ethic, remind your spouse that you love them, and say you are sorry for the wrongdoings. These efforts will give you the freedom to continually move forward in a positive direction.

Love yourself. Be happy about the person you have become. Then, ask yourself, where am I headed? Am I building moments of improvement and pillars of strength in my life each and every day?

You ARE a superhero! You are capable of making changes to better your own life and those around you. That is a huge and important task. You are a parent, a friend, a co-worker, a martial artist, an instructor, a caregiver, a child, a family member, a teacher, a listener, and a believer.  Most importantly, you are a completely important and unique YOU.  To me, that is super.

Grow and be strong!

xoxo

Andrea
