My Martial Heart (A video blog)

photo(2)My martial art.  My martial heart.

Twenty plus years ago, I found out I had a heart issue.  At first, I didn’t know if it was serious or if it was something I could live with, unnoticed.

That heart condition made me reflect on my life.  In a 24 hour span, I figured out that life was too short to not pursue the things that would make me happy, and that included a family and a martial art.

Listen to why I followed my heart and why you should, too.

Following your heart (and for me, following my martial heart) will help you find happiness and become the best that you can be.  I’m still enjoying who I am, thanks to following my passions.

I heart you…and that is why I’m winning at life.

  1. Happy Friday! I can relate to the lady who sent you the email. When I was in Kempo, I put off testing for yellow for a good while. This was a whole new world for me and still wasn’t confident. Finally I went for it and passed but inside I felt like I just scraped by. With the next test I wanted to make sure that I didn’t have that impression again. Anyway I enjoyed the video. Recently I received an email from a good friend from Kansas. She used to be in Karate years ago. Well I made a wooden ornament with a Karate theme as a much belated birthday gift. (her birthday was in January) Darn Winter. I’ve been making these type of ornaments for a few years now for friends and when I hear how much they enjoy them, I know that I have something to offer in life. To make people happy with maybe a simple thing but it comes from the heart. I don’t do it for money or credit. Just knowing that I can do something and have a sense of achievement. Maybe I will or won’t excel in martial arts, if or when I do return. But I know that I’m not a “no talent nobody”. As always continued success. Have a great weekend. All the best and full respect.

    1. I can relate to her, too, for sure. I used to be terrified of exams, but that changed after I decided to try to be more positive and not worry as much anymore. If I fail, I fail, but most likely I won’t. Send me a picture of your ornament. I’m always thrilled to see what comes from the hearts of others. Have a great day!

      1. I have some sketches of new designs that I’m hoping to get started on once the weather cooperates here. I use my garage as my workshop. But I will definitely get some pictures. Will keep you posted when I can get started. I forgot to mention that the most fun I have, aside from making the ornaments, is sending them to my friends without telling them. The element of surprise is always the best part. Have a great weekend. All the best and full respect.

Wow! You really had a wake-up call about life! Thanks for sharing. I like your advice to the gal who’s nervous about testing for her next belt. Thanks for the reminder to go with what our heart says to do. Even if one ends up making a mistake, one can regroup and learn.
