A Champion for Women, UK’s Chrissie Howard

Hi,

Welcome to a new series being incorporated into my martial art blog. This podcast series is a recorded interview with martial art women all over the world who truly make a difference in the world because of their martial art practice, and a listening journey for you. Whenever you have time, you can click above to listen at home or on the go. Whether you are a martial artist or not, you are sure to be inspired.

Chrissie Howard faced many obstacles in her life and in martial arts. As a youngster, she was severly shy to the point it was debilitating. When she began learning martial arts, she blended in with everyone else which enabled her to practice and attend classes, even through her shyness.

As a young adult woman training in the early 1980’s, Chrissie acheived her black belt, 2nd and 3rd dans between the age of 15 and 23.

She often won distinguished awards in competitions, but even as a winner her strive for perfection was an obstacle that was difficult to overcome. She could not find joy in winning because she intensely sought perfection. During competitions, her nerves “flooded her soul.”

Chrissie’s fascinating journey includes a 15 year stint as a police officer and prison guard in the UK where she honed her skills in control and restraint training.

This, however, is a story of karate, personal courage, and triumph. Chrissie’s perseverence paid off when she made a martial art comeback later in life in training and competitions. At age 45, she earned her 4th dan. Chrissie overcomes all her difficulties to finally achieve her dream of owning a school. Today, she confidently extends an invitation to all woman to learn a martial art.

Most importantly, Chrissie is an incredibly compassionate martial art woman.

Don’t miss Chrissie’s honest and inspiring message to all women!

xoxo

Andrea
